When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, the Municipal Yacht Harbor—a 600-slip marina on Lake Pontchartrain—was severely damaged.

Custom Float Services was honored to be part of the rebuilding process for this historic public landmark, popular for fishing and boating, and host to the Community Sailing Center and the Tulane University Sailing Team.

Custom Float Services undertook the project in two phases. First, there were six 10-foot by 20-foot low-water timber framed floats to be used for sailing dinghy storage built and delivered. Two Custom Float Services employees assisted with onsite installation in August 2017, working in conjunction with the local contractor, Junius Ship Shape.

The next phase, to be delivered in July 2018, was the construction of four 10-foot by 20-foot low-water floats and one 9-foot by 30-foot ADA-compliant all-welded marine aluminum gangway.

Transportation for both phases was provided by PEP Transportation out of Gardiner, Maine.

These are heavy-duty systems designed to provide optimum buoyancy and stability as part of the facility’s larger overhaul. Overall project performance considers impacts of extreme surges, waves, and wind for the protection of the facility and its boats.

For over 25 years, CFS has provided quality marine-related products and services, top-notch customer service, and competitive pricing throughout the Northeast and beyond.
